The Preacher‘s commission; “Is to declare the whole counsel of God.” The cross is the center of that counsel, and the travelers moving through the Christian landscape loses his or her way as soon as he or she loses sight of the hill called Calvary. The Word of God is clear and when it is explained accurately to the people, they understand it. That understanding is the first and most essential point of expositional preaching, because people cannot believe or obey truth they do not understand. Consequently, understanding allows us to build our lives on the wisdom that comes from above.
A clear understanding of the significance and magnitude of the Cross of Jesus Christ and its relationship to God’s word is not only fundamental, but an absolute necessity. The Word and Cross forms the convictions that will shape our Christian lives and lead us to a deep affection for the divine truth: “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption” (I-Corinthians 1:30). In summation, everything of value to the Christian life, physical and spiritual, here and now, temporal and eternal find its roots in God’s word and Jesus’ cross.
As we approach Easter, I will be re-posting several earlier posts that are directly related to the promises of God’s word that revealed the coming of the Messiah (Christ), and the Cross of Calvary. I pray that you will join us, had it not be been for our savior on the Cross where would we be? I thank God for blessing you to be a blessing to someone else. Amen.
