No Strings Attached

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (I-Corinthians 6:19).

In an earlier post “Conformation or Transformation” I spoke of the apostle Paul’s urging us to offer ourselves to God “as a living sacrifice, your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). The church body of Christ consists of many types of people—common to sophisticated, some understand Jesus’ death on the cross removed the need for temple sacrifice others do not. Paul insists Jesus’ sacrifice was more than a sacrifice it was the greatest sacrifice, an example of a personal sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, I agree. Jesus left the bar set high offering Himself with no strings attached, to fulfill the perfect will of God.

That which is not holy is an abomination to God. A sacrifice which is defiled by the habits and sins of the world is no more acceptable to God than a pig being offered upon the sacred altar of the Temple at Jerusalem. Such a sacrifice will not be accepted as Paul warns with a question, “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you?” Continuing Paul yells emphatically “you are not your own,” meaning you cannot do anything you want with your body, there are rules that governs it use. Rules put in place by the purchaser, the owner who bought us at a price, a very high-price.

We cannot present ourselves to God on Sunday mornings and prayer meeting nights only. Anything offered unto God’s must be His seven days and nights per week, fifty-two weeks per year, and it must be presented with no strings attached. It must be presented with a heart that cries, “Lord I have kept all that you have given me and I renounce all authority and ownership over this gift, now and forever.” We must offer ourselves for God’s use, to set aside or to destroy as He see fit. Here I am Lord, send me, take me and use me in your kingdom work.

Offering ourselves to God may be as simple as a hidden ministry of prayer and personal testimony—I say yes Lord. If it is a ministry in your hometown, that’s alright. If it takes you far across the sea to strange lands and unfriendly people…if it requires that I die for my faith at the hands of persecutors…if I must live under conditions that are worse than death…still this body is Yours. Do with it as you please—feed it or starve it…chill it in the cold of the far north or let it blister in the heat of the desert…exalt it or humiliate it…it is all Yours.

A sacrifice is not complete by merely saying yes to specific callings or requests of the Spirit of God when they are given. Total sacrifice involves a whole-hearted determination to devote your entire life to doing the will of God no matter what it is or what it may cost. It is the realization of Paul’s exhortation; “You are not your own.” You may find a small measure of power and a small measure of blessing, when you have made a small sacrifice. But, if you sincerely would like to experience the free flow of God’s miracle-working power in your life, you must present your body a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God.

God paid a high price to redeem us from the penalty of life in a sinful world, Jesus’ death was not a down payment it was the total payment, the debt has been paid in full.  We are not our own, God has the certificate of ownership sitting at His right hand in the heavenly places. Be blessed and bless someone in Jesus’ name.
