In an earlier post we spoke of people protesting Christmas for various reasons, some valid and others contemptuous. Stop for a moment and ask who’s doing the protesting? If like me, your immediate supposition is it must be the atheists, non-believers or heathens. If so, we would be both right and wrong at the same time. Let’s look a little closer to home.
Yes the atheist, non-believers and heathens are up to their usual tricks but the tendency today many Christians are joining the choir and singing the same song. Christians are unhappy for any number of reasons and it is my humble opinion that one of the primary reasons for this unhappiness is a lack of understanding of the purpose of life. The purposed end of man is not in external happiness, not bodily health, but holiness. Nowadays we have too many distractions and we are absorbed with them, but in the meantime God has to nullify them. The one thing that matters is whether a person will accept Jesus Christ who will make them holy. At all costs a person must be rightly related to God, as a child of God.
The non-believers and troubled believers are filled with rhetorical questions and judgmental sentiments such as: Do I believe I need to be holy? Do I believe the Spirit of God can come into me and make me holy? If by your preaching you are continuously telling me that I am unholy, I resent your preaching. Here’s the reason for such questions and sentiments, the preaching of the gospel awakens an intense resentment because it show that I am unholy; but it also awakens and intense craving. God has one pre-destined end for humanity, holiness. His single goal is the production of saints.
God did not send Jesus during this Christmas holiday season two thousand years ago to be an eternal blessing machine for men. He did not come to save men out of pity He came to save humanity because the Father had created us to be holy. The Atonement means that God can put you back into perfect relationship with Himself, without a shadow between us, through the Death of Jesus Christ. This is the crux of the issue with the protesters, both believing and no-believing, the resentment of holiness and salvation in Jesus.
Never tolerate through sympathetic meandering any practice that is not in keeping with a holy God, “You are holy, because I am holy,” are His words. Like most things God offers we have the freedom to choose whether we will embrace the blessing or reject it. Holiness is the walking on the straight and narrow path with feet of a saint, talking with the tongue of love that is God and thinking with the mind—with every thought under the scrutiny of God. Holiness is not only what God gave us in His only Begotten Son, but what we must show the world that God has given us. Let the heathens rage this Christmas! Be blessed and bless some in Jesus’ name.
